Last week, Queen Anne’s School took part in the third annual Maths Week England. We have been involved in this celebration of Maths ever since its inception in 2019, with the goal of getting our girls focused on doing maths in different ways and making the most of the mathematical skills involved.

To wake the girls up each day we had a daily video puzzle to solve every morning, with various other activities happening throughout the week. The U4 and half of the L4 took part in an online escape room entitled ‘The Bullion Heist’, the L6 watched a live online seminar on ‘How Maths Can Save the World’ which included many presentations from eminent mathematicians including one from Cop26.

Other activities included the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge, in which 50 of our L5, L6 and U6 girls took part in this national competition, and the inter-charter maths event, which saw each charter, across all year groups, pitting themselves against each other in various rounds, with logic, general knowledge and problem solving skills all being tested.

Overall it was a very enjoyable week; the maths department were delighted to see so many girls engaging enthusiastically in their maths in many different ways!

Daily video puzzle winners:

Monday: Sasha B (L5)
