Art Sixth Form

Out of over 17,000 entries, Sophia and Hauwa's pieces of art have been chosen as two of the 392 entries to be showcased in the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show online exhibition.

Last year, two of our students received prizes at the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show. However, with entry numbers having almost tripled since last year, this year's competition is tougher than ever!

Despite the huge amount of entries to the prestigious competition, Upper Sixth students Sophia E and Hauwa M have proven the talent of our Queen Anne's artists once again, by being selected for the online showcase of just 392 entries. The public will now vote for their favourite entries to receive special prizes.

Here are Sophia and Hauwa's incredible pieces, the stories behind them, and how you can vote for them in the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show:

Twelve - by Sophia E (U6)

"I was interested in how black people have been depicted in western art and specifically in the colours that artists used for black skin tones. I decided to paint 12 girls at my school who all have very different tones of black skin, but who are described as black."

Me x 3 - by Hauwa M (U6)

"I made these three sculptures looking at myself and my culture at different points in my life. I used traditional Nigerian fabrics to dress them and took inspiration from sculpture in the 1960s."

Congratulations to Sophia and Hauwa for your amazing work, and good luck in the rest of the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show!
