Last Tuesday 18 June, the Art Department had the pleasure of hosting a dynamic artist workshop led by the renowned Adebanji Alade. Known for his captivating oil paintings and voracious sketching, Adebanji brought a blend of energy, humour, and expertise that made the event an unforgettable experience for our Lower Six attendees.

The workshop began with Adebanji sharing insights into his impressive career. He spoke of his journey as an artist, emphasising his dedication to sketching and the development of his distinctive style. Adebanji also highlighted his work as a TV presenter, often seen on the One Show, where he brings art to the forefront of mainstream media.

One of the highlights of the workshop was Adebanji's demonstration of his painting techniques - the students watched on as he explained each step with clarity and enthusiasm. His ability to break down complex techniques into understandable segments was highly appreciated by everyone.

Following the demonstration, Adebanji guided the students through creating their own paintings, encouraging them to use their own photographs as inspiration. This hands-on session was challenging and rewarding, allowing students to apply the new techniques they had just learned under Adebanji's expert guidance. Each student ended the workshop with a completed oil painting of their own

The workshop was met with overwhelming praise from students. "Adebanji was inspiring and taught us many useful techniques that I will continue to use throughout my A levels," remarked Beth, whilst Poppy added, "Adebanji gave us a helpful and gripping introduction into Impressionism and his art style! He was very enthusiastic, engaging, and passionate about his work and our work, and offered us all useful tips and taught us new techniques that I’ll definitely use in the future!"
