English Music

English teacher, Mr Jackson, Senior Deputy Head, Mr Richards and guest speaker, Roy Blackwell presented a symposium to the Sixth Form yesterday afternoon. The symposium focused on the music of Benjamin Britten, in particular the Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, and the poetry of Charles Cotton, Alfred Lord Tennyson, William Blake, Ben Johnson and John Keats.

The music and poetry was scrutinised in detail, concentrating on figurative language, imagery, sound and rhythm, structure and context. To unite the two disciplines of English Literature and Music was exceptionally rewarding. The pupils were fully engaged and enjoyed the university lecture format of the presentation.

The next Sixth Form Symposium will take place on Friday 18 February 2022.
