Welcome back to a new year of sport at Queen Anne’s!

We kicked off this term with a busy first weekend of sport, with trials for both the L4 netball teams, and all of the lacrosse teams.

For our girls, sport doesn’t stop over summer. Many Queen Anne’s students have been keeping active and busy with their commitments to sport over the holidays. Here’s what just some of our students have been up to:

Lacrosse World Cup

Queen Anne’s alumna Bella Bowater, who left Queen Anne’s in 2018, captained the U19 England world cup lacrosse team in Canada in August.

There were 24 countries competing. The U19 team reached the play off for bronze . It was a very tough match and hard to lose to Australia, having beaten them earlier in the week in the pool matches.

Bella and her team should be incredibly proud of placing 4th at the world cup!

Lacrosse Festival

A Lacrosse Festival ran alongside the World Cup in Canada this summer. Holly B (U5) and Georgina L (U5) travelled out there to compete as part of the Centaurs team. They played some incredible lacrosse and were put into the U18 division. They came up against some very skilled American and Canadian teams, as well as the England U18 team. They were delighted to beat the Wales U18 and Godolphin U18 teams.

National Biathle Championships

Libby R (4), Ella B (U4) and Olivia B (L4) all competed in the Pentathlon GB National Biathle Championships in Salford Quays over the summer. This involves an 800m run, followed by a 100m swim and then another 800m run. For the Botha girls this was the first time ever competing in this event.

Libby placed second in the U13 category and Ella placed 4th in the U15 category.

Both girls have, as a result, qualified for the UIPM World Biathle Championships in Florida later this year.

Laser run Championships

Libby also competed in the UIPM European Laser Run Championships in Germany,  winning the U13 Laser Run Relay Championships (with her partner ZinZan) and helping the U13 Girls’ Team gain silver.

Athletics

Ella B (U4) has been competing throughout the summer and has achieved new PBs for both 800m and 1500m. Her PB for 1500m of 4:47.37, is an English School Girls Qualifying time.

Ella has been also representing Reading Athletics Club in the Youth Development League National Final in Manchester.

Swimming

Harriet S (U5) competed in the Welsh Nationals at the Welsh National Pool in Swansea at the start of August. It was a great finale to her season and Harriet achieved 2 big PB’s in the 100m and 200m backstroke.

She qualified for the finals in these events finishing 2nd in both and collecting 2 silver medals.

She has also been asked by the Head Coach at Reading Swimming Club to be their Club Captain for the upcoming season!

Discus

Zara O (U5) competed in the U17 women’s discus at the English Schools competition in July, where she placed 2nd and qualified to represent England at her first international competition in an England vest.

She competed against all the winners from the Scottish, Irish and Welsh national competitions and her throw of 43.68m secured her the gold medal!
