Queen Anne's is delighted to announce that U6 student Victoria has received an offer from Amazon's Degree Apprenticeship Programme in Software Development. After the 42-month contract she will receive a degree in software engineering whilst having been paid for the duration of the apprenticeship. Victoria's hard work and dedication through months of interviews was all worth it after she was awarded the place ahead of 40,000 other applicants.
Victoria had this to say:
"I’ve been interested in pursuing computer science and software engineering as a career since I was eleven so I’m really excited about this opportunity. I applied to four other similar degree apprenticeships, one of which (Rolls Royce) I also received an offer from. I joined Queen Anne’s in Lower 6, and I am currently taking maths, physics, and computer science A Levels as well as further maths AS Level. The support from the teachers during this process has been invaluable, as they have made sure that I had all the resources I needed to succeed, from practise interviews to help catching up with lessons I had to miss in order to attend real interviews. The Head of Careers and my form tutor Mrs Odell, as well as my Head of Year, Mrs Jones, were especially helpful.
The degree apprenticeship with Amazon had roughly 40,000 applicants for the software engineering role, with a very low acceptance rate due to it being highly competitive. I had to complete multiple rounds of interviews, as well as a virtual assessment centre where I had to do a group exercise and a presentation on a technical subject. The degree apprenticeship's structure gives me 4 days a week working immediately in the industry, and 1 day a week doing virtual classes for university. At the end of the 42-month programme I will receive a degree in software engineering as well as being paid for my work for the duration of the apprenticeship. I am really excited to be taking this opportunity and going straight into the world of work after leaving Queen Anne’s."
Victoria's success is a testament to her passion and commitment, which is supported by the school’s innovative digital learning programme, integrating technology into the classroom. This prepares students with the skills needed to succeed in the rapidly changing workplace. It's really important that our students are encouraged to explore all avenues for their career progression and life after Queen Anne's. Our career's programme allows them to see all the options open to them, whether it's university degrees or apprenticeships.
Queen Anne’s empowers its students with a continually evolving education that nurtures Kind Hearts, Fierce Minds, and Strong Spirits; while ensuring they are equipped for the modern world.
Huge congratulations to Victoria. We cannot wait to hear about your future successes.
