On Thursday 17th June, the Lower 6 participated in a full day self-defence workshop. The workshop was run by James Edwards, from Empowering PT, who taught us some key self-defence moves and challenged us to make the most out of the day.
During the workshops, by taking part in various hands-on demonstrations, we were able to acquire a variety of skills and helpful tips and tricks to defend ourselves. Self-defence is an extremely important thing for all young people to learn especially in today’s society, therefore, it was so amazing for the school to organise the workshop. The workshop provided us with the perfect opportunity to learn the best and most effective ways to protect ourselves from potentially dangerous situations, whether that was learning how to diffuse the situation or learning moves and ways to get out of situations physically.
“The workshop was highly beneficial and very accessible and tailored to our skillset as beginners.” - Freya Marshall
Not only was it a very fun experience, the informative, yet practical nature of the workshops has proved invaluable to many of us, as we feel adequately equipped to use these skills in the outside world. Many thanks to James for coming in for the various workshops, to the U5, L6 and U6, and we hope to have more opportunities like this to build on the foundation knowledge we gained in the workshop.
