On Tuesday 10 December, Queen Anne’s staff and students came together for the long-standing and much-loved tradition of Bust Up! An afternoon filled with year group songs, student-produced videos, and the grand finale – a silent disco.
This year’s theme was Hollywood Icons, and the students showcased some outstanding costumes. From Willy Wonka and Yoda to group efforts with The Lion King and Smurfs, the creativity and effort on display was remarkable.
As is tradition, the staff showcased their own secret theme, Decades, which was met with a very wide scope. The Maths department captured the 2010s by transforming into the very popular Minions, while the English department took a historical turn, representing the 1590s.
A highlight of the day was the much-anticipated Yearovision, where each year group performed a song of their choice. Expertly guided by the Senior Prefect team, the afternoon saw a range of fantastic performances. The Upper Sixth gave a powerful rendition of Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten, while the Upper Fifth performed Tomorrow from the musical Annie. The ultimate winners, however, were the energetic Lower Fifth, with a lively performance of Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off.
The afternoon finished with student-led videos. This year, Lower Fifth to Upper Sixth students were tasked with creating their own music videos. The Upper Sixth delivered a very high-quality mash-up of songs, complete with impressive acting, dancing, and a drone shot of the whole year group together on the school field spelling out ‘U6’. Whilst the overall winners were the Lower Sixth, who choreographed a fantastic dance to N*Sync’s Bye, Bye, Bye. Their video featured not only a dance tour around the school but also the enthusiastic participation of several staff members, including some particularly impressive moves from Ms Purves!
To complete the celebrations, everyone gathered in the sports hall, which the Sixth Form had transformed to host a silent disco.
A special thank you goes to the Senior Prefect team and Sixth Form for their hard work in organising and hosting this treasured Queen Anne’s tradition.
