A round-up of all the latest sports news in the week commencing Monday 25 March 2019.

Artemis Ski Challenge

The Queen Anne’s ski team took part in the Artemis British Inter-Schools Ski Challenge in Italy last week, under the watchful eye of their Olympian coach, Chemmy Alcott. They worked incredibly hard all weekend, getting up at 6am for fitness training. They then completed race training on the hill through the day with a debrief, video analysis and stretching/yoga in the evenings.

The girls, showed great courage and resilience over the four days, especially as for many of them it was their first experience of ski racing. The competition was really tough with over 60 competitors per race and many from various International schools who ski and race regularly.

A massive well done to all the girls:

Scarlett B (L4) , Katie W (4), Anna B (4), Ella B (4), Millie J (4), Gabrielle H (U4), Isabella H (U4), Louisa H (U4), Freya M (L5), Ruby M (L5)

Rowing

Last Monday, two sixth form row quads raced over 3800m at the Junior Sculling Head held at Dorney Lake. The water was choppy as the wind was gusting but all the girls handled the conditions well. Queen Anne’s Boat Club came away with some good results as crews continue to be mixed in different combinations prior to the Easter rowing camp, in preparation for the National Schools Regatta in May.

Henley Youth Festival

On Friday 15th March the junior dance company performed at the Henley Youth Festival at the Kenton Theatre. The juniors had been rehearsing a jazz number called “Wade in the Water” that displayed technical jazz steps such as pirouettes and accented hops turning . This was the girls’ first external performance as a junior dance company member, and they did a great job!

Scarlet Ball

The mids and seniors performed a cabaret performance on Saturday 16th March at the QASPA Ball. The ball was a themed evening around ‘Secret Garden’.

The dance was based around a girl entering a secret world at the bottom of her garden and dancing with the creatures. The girls used their imagination to create amazing face art using glitter and makeup.

The Great British Dance Off Heats

The great big dance off regional heat were held at the Wyvern theatre in Swindon on Tuesday 19th March. The juniors, mids and seniors all performed their own dances at the heats and this gave the mids chance to perform their newest piece called ‘Everybody wants to rule the world’. This was a piece about power between two sides. This finishes a very busy run of events over the last week for the dance company.

There has been so much sports news this week that we have left some to talk about next week, so please do not worry if your event has not been mentioned.
