Queen Anne’s Alumna Zara Obamakinwa Shines in Cybersecurity and Athletics

Queen Anne’s School alumna of 2022, Zara Obamakinwa, is making headlines for her remarkable achievements both in the world of technology and athletics. Zara, who currently works in cybersecurity at BT Group, was recently featured in a LinkedIn post reshared by BT’s Chief Executive, Allison Kirkby, as part of a celebration of the company’s exceptional female talent. In the post, Zara explained balancing work life with her sporting career: “I always knew I wanted to work in Cyber Security – I went to a careers event at school and it really caught my imagination. Whereas sport… that never came naturally to me. I’ve had to dedicate myself to it – work hard at it and train. I feel like I’ve found a real direction in my life – and there’s no limits to how far I can go.”

Zara recently competed in the UK Athletics Championships and Olympic Trials 2024, where she secured an impressive 2nd place in the Women’s Discus event. Another Queen Anne’s alumna, Lauren Church, also showcased her athletic prowess by making it to the final of the 1500m race. Competing alongside elite athletes like Laura Muir and eventual winner Georgia Bell.

Zara’s dual success in both her professional and athletic pursuits serves as an inspiration to current students, demonstrating how students grasp opportunities available to them at Queen Anne’s School and truly enter the workplace with strong spirits. We congratulate Zara for her incredible work ethic and continued success.
