Alumnae Concert

The Music Department were out in force for the Spring Concert on the evening of Monday 1 April, with outstanding performances from Queen Anne’s students, staff and alumnae.

The Chamber Orchestra performed a world premiere of a movement from a recently discovered Organ Concerto by Philip Hayes.

Eleanor P (L6) was our organ soloist for this piece, and led our orchestra with confidence and maturity.

The 2nd movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A major was played beautifully by Anna T (U5).

The final orchestral piece was composed by Queen Anne’s alumna Gabrielle Woodward. Gabrielle is currently reading Music at Worcester College, Oxford.

This piece, titled ‘Jutland, Lest We Forget’ was commissioned in 2016 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Jutland and performed by the Docklands Sinfonia.

It was a real privilege to have Gabrielle join us to rehearse and conduct her own music.

You can watch our orchestra, conducted by Gabrielle Woodward, performing this moving piece below.

Our choir also treated the audience to a spectacular rendition of Vivaldi’s Gloria.

The evening was rounded off in superb style by our Concert Band and Jazzabelles.

Our Spring Concert was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for both our audience and musicians. A brilliant way to end what has been an action packed term for Music at Queen Anne’s School!
