Alumnae Lecture Talk

Last week we welcomed Rosie Dart back to QAS to talk to our Lower 6 about her journey since leaving Queen Anne's in 2016.

Rosie Dart, who graduated from Durham University in 2019, has built an impressive career in the entertainment industry. Her first job was working at NBCUniversal, where she gained valuable industry experience as a Production Assistant. From there, she transitioned into casting, working with notable casting agents like Priscilla John, Orla Maxwell, and Jessica Ronane.

Her next move was as a Creative Assistant at Netflix which further expanded her knowledge, and she currently works as a Creative Executive at Unilever Entertainment. Throughout her career, Rosie has engaged deeply in the casting process, collaborating closely with directors and producers, auditioning actors, and negotiating contracts while managing budgets. She has worked on some very well known projects including Luther, Enola Holmes, 2:22 and the True Detective to name but a few!

Rosie emphasised the importance of a well-rounded education, noting how various subjects she studied contribute to her everyday work. For instance, she openly admitted to not particularly enjoying maths whilst at school but the skills she learnt are actually crucial for budget management!  She also mentioned subjects such as languages, which comes in useful for translations and dialect coaching, and even knowledge from science disciplines that has to be applied to set engineering and construction. Her insights reflected the interconnectedness of skills and knowledge that she learnt at school and now uses in the film industry. She encouraged the students to be courageous and to follow their dreams, especially if they are interested in working within less creative careers such as film and media. Her key piece of advice was; “Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to people when in social situations – most people will be happy to give you career advise as they will have been in a similar position once upon a time”.

We look forward to following Rosie’s career and are excited to see what she accomplishes next!
