Alumnae Economics

The Economics & Business society were delighted to host a QAS alumna, Afiya Titus, as our visiting speaker on Tuesday 19 March. She gave us a brief overview of her career in accounting and finance which then led her on to founding her own businesses in both the food and financial services industries.

Afiya is a serial entrepreneur who founded Lime Hut, a Caribbean-inspired superfood company with a popular stall at the Berwick Street Food Market in London, as well as being the cofounder of Coco Financial. After graduating from an undergraduate degree at UCL, Afiya completed a graduate scheme at Deloitte and qualified as a chartered accountant. She then followed her passion for cooking delicious food with high nutritional value and began selling her food on a market stall in Soho. Collaborating with brands including Nike, Puma and SBTV, the Lime Hut brand brought contemporary Caribbean dishes to London with a focus on health and wellbeing.

Her Caribbean street food stall in Soho, Lime Hut, now caters for corporate events and Coco Financial Services provides a safe space for women in business to ask questions and to gain advice about their business start-ups. She happily supports women who are using their enterprise skills to make a difference in their communities and beyond.

Our aspiring entrepreneurs were really inspired to hear Afiya’s personal stories of her journey. Her best piece of advice was about developing resilience in the face of adversity as she shared: “Failure is fine, as long as you fail forwards”. We are so grateful that she was able to take the time to speak to us and we really look forward to welcoming her back in the future.
