A round-up of all the latest sports news in the week commencing Monday 20 May 2019.

Cobham Lacrosse Tournament

It may be summer but lacrosse carries on for some. Holly B (L5) was joint Captain last weekend for Centaurs Lacrosse Club and they won the Cobham U15 Tournament. It was a great day with some fantastic lacrosse – and the sun was shining!

England U15 Regional Academy Trial Results

Congratulations to the following girls who trialled at Easter and have been accepted into the Regional Lacrosse Academy, the first stage of the England Lacrosse talent pathway:

Lucy B (U4), Izzy W (U4), Niamh G (U4), Lara R (4), Katie L (4), Grace J (4), Georgie G (4), Beau B (4)

Ball Cup Regatta

Queen Anne’s Boat club took 11 rowers to Ball Cup Regatta at Eton Dorney.

It turned out to be a brilliant day, great weather, great conditions and great racing. There were some fantastically close races, which made for exciting spectating. Our J18 Double and J15 quad battled it out in the first round races to come in the top 6 and proceed to the final. Ultimately every boat we entered medalled.

The J18 double missed silver by a bow ball.

The J18 quad produced an excellent sprint finish to gain a silver medal.

The J15 quad went into the final as the underdogs, with the slowest time from the heats, but they paced their race really well, sticking to their race plan and they came away with the gold medal!

With this excellent race experience, the girls are now ready to race at National Schools Regatta next week.

ESAA Track and Field Cup

Queen Anne’s entered a junior and inter team in the ESAA Track and Field Cup.

The inter team had some excellent performances, with Zara O (L5) achieving the highest point score for an individual event in the discus with a throw of 35.59m. The highest point scorers across two events were Poppy W (U4) competing in hurdles and high jump, Amelia S (U4) in 200 and javelin and Zoe O (L5) in 300m and long jump.

The scores were very close between teams and the inter were pushed into 5th place by just one point behind the teams that tied third for third. Their score was still high enough to qualify them for the regional B final in Exeter.

The junior team placed third in a competition that went down to the wire with everything to play for in the relay. Ella B (4) was the highest point scorer for an individual event. Highest point scorers across two events were Ella B (4) in high jump and 1500m, Lara R (4) in 200m and javelin and Katie L (4) in hurdles and high jump. They too have qualified for their Regional B final which will be in Basingstoke.

ATHLETICS V ST MARY’S ASCOT

Thank you to all the girls who competed in the athletics against St Mary’s Ascot on Saturday afternoon. Various girls were unable to participate and as a result girls were competing in 3 or 4 different events back to back. Millie B (U4) ran a particularly impressive 1500m, front running and setting the pace, with no one able to catch her!

Tennis Matches

Tennis matches continued apace last week, with matches against Bradfield, Cranford House and Downe House.

Tennis Tournament

On Saturday, 12 Queen Anne’s girls travelled to Bradfield to take part in the very competitive ISGL tennis tournament. There were some fantastic displays of tennis from all the girls.

After the pool stages Queen Anne’s went into the 5th place play off against St. Mary’s Ascot. Unfortunately after some close fought matches they just lost out and were placed sixth overall. Well done to all of the girls who played:

Celebrate Dance 2019

Queen Anne’s annual dance show ‘Celebrate Dance’ was another success the weekend before last.
Every performer worked very hard during the performances. Girls displayed focus and superb energy to bring across the character and style of the dances they were performing. The level of artistry and ability improves every year and it was clear to see every performer’s improvement during the annual show.

There were 77 girls from across all years, L4 right up to U6 performing. Many girls and staff helped backstage with makeup, hair, costumes and lights, so a big thank you to them too.

The end of the dance show brought with it time to say farewell to our Upper Sixth, many of whom have been dancing at Queen Anne’s since Lower Four. There were lots of tears and farewell embraces at the end of a fantastic show as the Upper Sixth’s dance journey here comes to an end.
