Queen Anne's School lends it's facilities to charities to help feed children this Easter

Thomas Franks began to develop the idea of 'Feeding Communities' a year ago when they realised the devastating effect that the lockdown was having on so many people who were no longer able to feed their families. Initially, they gave support to causes in the local community of Caversham - Berkshire Women’s Aid and Sport in Mind, alongside other charities across the UK, Portugal, and Malta. This Easter they will be helping the London, South West charity "Miracles".

Last year Thomas Franks approached Queen Anne's and asked to use their facilities - kitchens and preparation areas, whilst they were dormant during the lockdown, to provide food for what has turned out to be over 100 charities. Queen Anne's School said "Yes!" - helping venerable children and their families have healthy and nutritious food is a cause close to their hearts (#Kind Hearts). A year later, over 500,000 meals have been produced by the scheme and this Bank Holiday Easter weekend will see a further 8,500 added to that amount.

"Miracles the Charity" set up the initiative Feed London (#SouthWestFeed). They take referrals from professional bodies such as hospitals, social workers, and Citizens Advice to ensure the most vulnerable families are catered for. This Easter, Thomas Franks is filling 120 very large boxes, containing two chilled pre-made meals (by Steve Beaumont and Tristan Mathews) as well as the ingredients and recipe cards, for 5 more meals to cook healthy family meals. Everything will be prepped this week before leaving Queen Anne's school kitchen on Thursday 1 April to help feed over 7,000 children living in dire food poverty in the London Boroughs.

On Thursday, these boxes will be delivered to the doorsteps of those in need in London. We wish all those families a Happy Easter. Well done and thank you, to Thomas Franks catering team at Queen Anne's and all the volunteers working up and down the country this Easter.
