GCSE success for Queen Anne's Students

Queen Anne’s School is delighted to be celebrating a top set of GCSE results with 100% of grades achieved at 9-4 (A*-C) and 59% at 9/8/A* grade, across 25 subject options.

“Many congratulations to the girls on their outstanding GCSE results but also for their attitude to learning and for the wonderful support they have shown each other. I am proud of the tremendous effort that the girls have shown and of the tireless dedication of the Queen Anne’s staff to see the girls through the many challenges of the last 18 months.” said Headmistress, Julia Harrington.

An impressive 16 students achieved a full set of 9/8 (A*) grades with five of these girls receiving straight 9s. The top students continuing their studies at Queen Anne’s Sixth Form include Grace Pavey, from Sonning who is “ecstatic” with her grades and will study History, English Literature and Religious Studies. Isabel Welch, from Cookham Dean, and Heidi Feilder, from Maidenhead, choosing a STEM route with Chemistry, Maths and Economics and Chemistry, Maths, Geography and Economics respectively. Aoife Freeman from Crowthorne is "extremely pleased" with her results and is excited to continue her studies at Queen Anne's where she will complete A Levels in English, History and French.

The dedication of the school’s sportswomen is shown in their results with outstanding trampolinist Amelia Shaw, from Finchampstead, achieving all 9s, 8s and 7s. Amelia will continue her studies at Queen Anne’s with A Level PE, Chemistry, Psychology and Biology. Another strong player on the sports field is Poppy Winters, from Crazies Hill, who will study Chemistry, Biology and Geography having achieved eight 9s and one 8 grade.

Hettie Walker, from Peppard, has ambitions of studying Medicine in the future and will study Chemistry, Biology and Psychology at A Level. She has shown great achievement both inside and out of the classroom with all 9-7 grades in her GCSEs and having recently been accepted into the U19 English Lacrosse Academy.

Many departments were celebrating a full suite of top grades. In Mandarin all six non-native speaking students achieved 9/A* grades showing great promise for their futures as international citizens.

Niamh Griffin, from Cookham, was delighted to have achieved a full set of eleven 9/A* grades. A keen actress and sportswomen, Niamh's results show her dedication and commitment both inside and outside of the classroom. 

Art students at Queen Anne’s benefit from innovative teaching and outstanding facilities including a specialist animation area and studios for ceramics, molding and casting and plasterwork. The wealth of learning opportunities available to the girls is reflected in their GCSE results with 100% of art students scoring 9-7 (A*-A). Art Scholars Gabby and Isabella Hortopp from Lower Shiplake achieved excellent grades across all subjects and were both delighted after achieving a 9 in Art.

Queen Anne’s is known for its top music facilities and teaching. Future A Level musician and violinist, Hilarie Chong achieved all 9/8/A* grades and was part of a strong cohort of music students with 100% of pupils achieving A*-B grades.  Hilarie recently was runner-up in the strings Berkshire Young Musician of the Year and will take the FTCL in October 2021. Hilarie completed much of her studies remotely from Hong Kong due to strict travel restrictions.

“We are delighted to have been able to support our international students remotely through this difficult time and the girls have shown an impressive commitment to their learning. The teachers have worked incredibly hard, sometimes providing teaching in the classroom with some students in attendance remotely at the same time.” said Mark Richards, Senior Deputy Head.
