Jazz & Big Band Evening!

Our musicians never fail to put on a brilliant concert for the school community.

After being re-scheduled from its original date in November, the Jazz and Big Band evening provided the audience with beautifully performed jazz numbers along with some familiar favourites from films. The Saxoholics opened the concert with Night Train from the movie Blues Brothers. The next ensemble pieces were performed by the Cantopops, who played Tanguango an upbeat Latin piece and Mozart’s Rondo a la Turca. The Clarinetixs Ensemble performed the popular ABBA song, Money, Money, Money along with Tears in Heaven, Cutie Flootie and Jazz Trio for Interada.

The first half ended with the Concert Band playing a medley of well-known film music from Star Wars, Bohemian Rhapsody, Shrek Dance Party and we were even transported to Hogwarts.

The Jazzabelles started the second half with Eye of the Tiger followed by Green Onions along with Frank Sinatra’s, New York, New York, a fitting song to be performed with the upcoming Music and Art Trip to New York over the Easter Break.

The Concert Band and Jazzabelles rehearse every week directed by Mr Hayward with students learning music in all styles. Clarientixs and Saxoholics rehearse weekly and our Cantopops are mainly student-led.

Mr Padley commented,

Yet another brilliant evening displaying the diversity of the music on offer at Queen Anne’s and the wealth of talent of our performers.

Our next music events include Lunchtime concerts and the Choral and Orchestral Concert on Tuesday 22nd March.
