An Afternoon of Celebrations

Whole School

On Thursday 26 May, Queen Anne’s staff and students celebrated Ascension Day, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the school’s 128th birthday.

The whole school attended a service led by Reverend Ross-Smith in which she discussed the commemoration of Jesus Christ’s ascension into heaven. Hymns were sung, Head of School, Ms Purves gave a reading of Luke 24:50-24, and two Upper 6 students led the school in prayer.

There was a sense of togetherness in the chapel as the students look forward to the half term break. To conclude the service, Holy communion took place whilst the choir sang.

Following the service, the school descended onto the front lawn for an afternoon of high tea and garden games, as we celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee and the school’s birthday.

Ms Purves spoke of the Queen and her reign, along with the story of her daughter writing to the Queen and receiving an official letter in return. In her address to the school Ms Purves welcomed one of the school’s oldest and one of the school’s youngest students onto the stage, for the QAS tradition of cutting the school’s birthday cake. Clemmie and Madaline, together cut the 128th birthday cake for the school, marking the start of the afternoon’s celebrations.
