GCSE Geography Students Explore the Wonders of Wales: A Riveting Journey Along the River Ogmore

Queen Anne's School students recently embarked on an exhilarating GCSE residential geography trip to Wales, immersing themselves in the natural beauty and urban landscapes of Margam and Swansea. They delved into the depths of their geographical knowledge while unravelling the secrets of the enchanting River Ogmore.

Esha (L5), says:

We arrived at Margam Park Field Study Center on Friday and quickly began our River Studies. We had lots of fun measuring the river and studying rocks and pebbles in the river. We also enjoyed the walk through the scenic route in the park and were treated to a lovely meal at the end of the day. Before having some free time, we returned to the classroom to prepare for the next day.

On the second day we swiftly set off towards the source of the River Ogmore. There we continued our studies and enjoyed the view of the valley and even drew a field sketch. We continued on to three other sites where we had plenty of fun taking measurements in the river. We ended the day with an overview in the class and then had time to go out and see the donkeys before bed.

On the Sunday we started our Urban Field Studies and headed into Swansea where we learnt all about the wonderful city and investigated how Urban Deprivation varies with distance from the CDB. . We walked through the sunshine and even had time for ice cream at the end. After returning to the FSC we had dinner before spending some more time in the classroom.  We then played football and enjoyed the last night of the trip.

We began Monday by quickly packing our bags and heading to the classroom to write our conclusions. After working through the morning we had lunch and set off from QAS on the coach. Overall, we had a great trip and will never forget Miss Clarke entertaining us all by dressing up as the Earth.
