‘See What You Can Be’ at Royal Air Force Benson

The 4s and U4s recently visited RAF Benson for an event with the theme "if you can see it, then you can be it" to inspire young women from nearby schools. A diverse group including Military, Reservist, Veteran and Civilian women shared their inspirational experiences and careers with students.

RAF Recruiting and Selection, along with STEM ambassadors, provided RAF related activities. The aim of the event was to empower young females to believe that they can pursue careers in any field and, with resilience and determination, achieve significant physical goals and overcome mental challenges.

Here's what our students said:

"I enjoyed the day out yesterday and I really liked being able to go inside the trucks, engines, and cars."

"I really enjoyed our trip to RAF Benson. The initial speaker the ‘Girl On The Bike’ was really inspiring and I enjoyed her talk. I think it was really encouraging and it excellently promoted self-confidence. I found that every stand had something that intrigued our group. My personal favourite was Fire and Rescue, though I think this was probably swayed by the Striker! The career that I think I am most likely to consider, in the future, is the Air Police. They really showcased the excitement this career holds and crucial role in justice it plays. I think overall, I really appreciated the passion each and every speaker had for their job."

"The RAF trip was a fun and educational trip that I enjoyed a lot. I was honoured to talk to a lot of inspirational and powerful women in the RAF. Thank you."

"I think that the RAF trip was very inspiring, and it was great being able to talk to people from loads of different career backgrounds."
