EDUQAS A LEVEL MUSIC CONFERENCE

Over 80 A Level music students and teachers from 15 different schools gathered at Queen Anne's on Tuesday 15 November for the EDUQAS A Level Music Conference.

The conference focused on the following musical topics:

The Western Tradition: The Development Of The Symphony 1750-1900

Into The Twentieth Century: Debussy and Poulenc

Twentieth Century Listening

Dr Joanne Cormac is a Nottingham Research Fellow. She has been previously a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow and also held Visiting Scholarships at Wolfson College, University of Oxford, Georgetown University and Washington DC, and was a Lecturer in Music at Oxford Brookes University.

David Coggins studied at the Royal College of Music, mainly as a performer and King’s College London, mainly as a music analyst. He has spent his time since exploring ways to bring together those two musical worlds. David has worked as an orchestral musician, a conductor and teacher of A Level Music (Head of Music at Queen Mary’s College and Brockenhurst College) for 30 years.

Kenneth Smith is  Professor of Music Theory at Liverpool University having held posts at Keele and Durham. His first book, ‘Skryabin, Philosophy and the Music of Desire’ was published early in 2013, and he has published essays in music journals on Alexander Skryabin, Karol Szymanowski, Charles Ives and Alexander von Zemlinsky. In addition to his interest in Western art-music from the turn of the twentieth century, Kenneth specializes in music theory.

 

The conference was an excellent opportunity to continue our schools partnership events with various Independent and State schools in the county, with students from the following schools in attendance:
