The Spanish trip to Madrid was a great chance for the students to practise their Spanish, soak up the culture and see the wonderful sights of the city. They had a jam-packed schedule to look forward to.

Four of the students in the Upper 4 kept a diary of each day's activities.

Day 1- by Reet D:

On Saturday the 4th of June we were all up bright and early, ready to head to the airport. We were all so excited and couldn’t wait to arrive to the sunny weather. We all got onto the aeroplane and enjoyed a short 2h and 30-minute flight, arriving in Madrid at 1 in the afternoon.

The first thing we did was eat a delicious meal at out hotel. Our rooms were very nice and the air conditioning was greatly appreciated! We then got ready to go on a tour around the city. Our tour leader met us at the hotel and we started walking around the town. We walked around lots of beautiful areas and learnt all about Spanish architecture, dating back to the 17th century. We then had some free time to go to shops and get some food. We decided to go to an ice cream shop and tried the most delicious ice cream we’d ever eaten!

Later on, we arrived back to the hotel and had a very yummy dinner. We were so sad that one day had gone by but we were very excited for the next ones to come!

Day 2- by Izzy M:

Hola! On Day 2 we got up at 7am and went down for breakfast and then departed at around 9am to head to Parque del Retiro. We havd a lovely walk around the park for an hour and then we went on the rowing boats by the monument of Alfonso XII, we attempted to stand up and swap positions so we could each have a turn and it was such fun! After we came off the boats, we left El Retiro and stopped off at a flea market and had lunch which was delicious.

We then went to a little bakery and got an ice cream as well. After lunch, we went for a tour of the Royal Palace, which was so cool, and very big. In the palace, we saw the royal jewels and crown, the throne, the dining all, and lots of other rooms. To end our day, we went flamenco dancing and to be honest most of us are professionals now. It was still super-hot and most of us were tired but we all had fun and learnt how to dance! We had a quick walk back and went back to the hotel for dinner.

Day 3- by Esha D:

On the third day of the trip we woke up at 7am and had breakfast; the croissants were really nice. We set off on the coach to visit the ancient city called Toledo. The view was amazing! When we arrived we went on a guided tour around the town and discovered the rich history of the city. We then had some time to explore Toledo and enjoyed having an ice cream in the sunny weather. We had lots of fun browsing the souvenir shops.

Afterwards, we returned to Madrid to visit Museo Reina Sofia, an art museum, and had lots of fun looking at the modern artwork on display.

Our teachers were amazing and had organised a tapas evening for us all. This was the highlight of my trip as the food was delicious and we had lots of fun and enjoyed the atmosphere in the Plaza Mayor. We had such a nice last evening in Spain and will remember it for years to come.

Day 4- by Antonia S:

In the morning of our last day in Madrid, we had some leisure time in the city. After we had eaten breakfast and packed our suitcases, we split into our groups and set off. We all spent the morning eating churros and doing some last–minute shopping. When the coach came, we put in our luggage and made our way to the airport, as we approached the airport, we were all very sad that we had to leave sunny, hot Madrid. Overall, we all had a great trip, as the teachers, the hotel and all the activities were very nice. We all had a lot of fun!
