Enterprise Competition

Two of our Queen Anne’s girls have reached the final of the Peter Jones’ Foundation Tycoon Enterprise Competition!

The Tycoons Enterprise Competition runs nationally for students aged 6 to 18. Every participating team writes a business plan, is lent money, starts a business and trades, competing with other student companies through a sophisticated kickstarter style platform, in a safe and controlled environment.

Emmeline B (L6) and Anna W (L6) formed one of eight teams that stood out amongst the 389 businesses taking part. The girls demonstrated incredibly strong enterprise capabilities and solid financial results, with their business called That Purpose. You can find out more information about the finalists.

“That Purpose creates long lasting objects that can be use many times over. They are made from sustainable materials that can be recycled or decompose naturally.” the girls said.

Emmeline and Anna created their first product, The Purpose bag, to overcome the problem of small carrier bags being used just once and then thrown away. The bag is reusable and made from recycled material, and folds up to the size of a credit card, so that it can be easily carried and used.

Although many people now use paper bags instead of plastic, especially for carrying lunch back from the sandwich shop, thinking that they are better for the environment, paper bags actually take more energy to produce than plastic bags, break easily and are usually dumped in the bin after lunch.

Next week they will travel to Buckingham Palace for the Tycoon Enterprise Competition grand final, where the winners will be announced and presented trophies by Peter Jones CBE.

The girls will also be entering their business into The National Entrepreneur of the Year competition, a first for Queen Anne’s School!

Congratulations to Emmeline and Anna for their incredible efforts in setting up their own business, which supports this very important environmental issue. Good luck in the Tycoon Enterprise Competition grand final next week!

Update:

On Monday 6 May, That Purpose attended the prize giving for Tycoon in Schools at Buckingham Palace where they met Peter Jones and other business leaders.  In short, they won their category!

There was enormous interest in their product and they exchanged contact details with many interested organisations.

The next stage of their journey is entry into the National Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

It was great to see the girls talking so professionally and enthusiastically, and to have their hard work recognised.
