Inter-House Competition

On Tuesday 25 June, the L4s had their first experience of partaking in a public speaking event, in the Inter-House Public Speaking Competition.

Judged by four L6 students, who hold a wealth of public speaking experience, our L4s addressed their audience, with 5 minutes to present a topic that they are passionate about.

Teams from Wilkins, Webbe and Maddock decided to speak on the topic of global warming and climate change.

Verity and Ava from Wilkins gave a moving presentation from the perspective of a sea turtle.

Zara and Lara, representing Webbe, highlighted the differences between global warming and climate change, which are often misrepresented as the same things.

Maddock’s representatives Sophia and Melissa debated the question ‘Will there be a future planet Earth?’ and why the issues of global warming and climate change are not being taken seriously enough.

The teams from Ffyler and Wisdome decided to speak on the topic of gender equality in sports.

Alice and Hannah from Ffyler debated why some sports are gendered, particularly when being taught in school.

Francesca and Lucinda, from team Wisdome, highlighted the staggering pay gap between men and women in sports, and that none of the world’s 100 top paid athletes are women.

Each team gave insightful and well-researched talks, presented with confidence and dedication.
In the end, Wilkins house took 2nd place, and Webbe were announced the winners of the Inter-House Public Speaking Competition.

Congratulations to all of the L4 girls who represented their houses – we hope that this public speaking experience will be the first of many!
