Mandarin Competition

On Monday 9 December, a group of our students travelled to London to compete in the British Council Mandarin Speaking Competition.

Temi A (4), Sophia G (4), Ava L (4), Lara L (U4) and Luisa B (L5) competed against a number of other schools, performing a five minute drama piece completely in Mandarin Chinese.

Their performance was called ‘Butterfly Lovers’, a story about a girl called Zhu Ying Tai, who rebelled against her father and dressed up as a boy to attend school. She meets a fellow student called Liang Shan Bo, and the two grow close.

This performance also included a Chinese song and dance, which they performed confidently in front of an audience of judges and fellow competitors.

You can watch their excellent group performance below:

Last year our Queen Anne’s team placed 2nd nationally at the British Council Mandarin Speaking Competition. Let’s see if this year we can reach 1st – good luck girls!
