Cricket has really taken off this year with enthusiasm in the junior years particularly high. Building on their weekly lessons in the summer term, there have been after school clubs and the opportunity to play in friendlies as well as two teams entered in the local league. Mr Blunt and Mr Dockery have been leading the cricket delivery in school and their lessons have been high octane and full of fun.
There are some incredibly strong county cricketers amongst our girls and they have really led by example. The biggest improvement across the school has been seen in the girls’ bowling consistency, with their confidence to bat closely behind. The U13 and U14 squad got the opportunity to hone their skills further at the cricket festival hosted by Leighton Park; the students received first-hand coaching in fielding, batting and bowling from current County players.
What has been particularly lovely has been the support of spectating girls at home cricket fixtures. There is a super network of local cricket girls for the girls to feed into with both Henley and Kidmore End with very active girls’ teams.
