Sports Whole School

We expect our sports scholars to lead by example, not only through their prowess in sport, often competing in our top teams in multiple sports, but also through their attitude by showing commitment to training and full engagement in every session. They inspire others to try and reach the same level and are central driving forces within their teams.

- Nicky Burley, Director of Sport

Olivia is a day girl at Queen Anne’s, joining the school in Lower 4 as a sports scholar and is about to start her third year at the school.

As a keen sports woman, Olivia has undertaken many sports at the school, but Lacrosse and athletics are firm favourites; despite never picking up a lacrosse stick or trying hurdles (Olivia’s athletics speciality) before joining the school.

Olivia described the day she spent at QAS before being accepted as a scholar: “Those who had applied came to the school for the day for a trial. We played netball matches, tennis, lacrosse and did a cross-country run. It was a really fun day because we also got to know all the PE teachers.”

Olivia, like all sports scholars are encouraged to join and try out as many sports as possible, so they are able to improve and broaden their sporting abilities. Playing competitively in a lacrosse team, Olivia goes to practise each week and has a match almost every weekend during the lacrosse season. This past year, Olivia was captain for the A team and said, “a big achievement for the team was coming 9th in a county competition.”

The school puts forward a select few students for a trial with England Lacrosse. Olivia tried, was successful and is currently in the first stage of the England Lacrosse talent pathway; she is hopeful that she will progress through the programme over the coming years

When asked what her favourite thing is about sports at Queen Anne’s, Olivia said, “all the staff are so supportive. We have loads of matches which are a really fun way to spend a weekend, and the facilities here are amazing!”
