L4s History Around Me Project

History L4

Our L4 historians recently embarked on an independent project titled ‘Uncovering the history around me’ where they were encouraged to approach any period or aspect of history, related somehow to their own lives, with creativity and originality.

The intention of this project was to draw the girls away from their screens during this period of heavy reliance on technology, and instead get them exploring their own homes or local areas as well as talking to family members and friends for their inspiration and research.

The outcome has been so impressive, encouraging and inspirational – the passionate and creative way in which the girls approached this project has truly been in the spirit of #QASFierceMinds! From projects about local biscuit manufacturer Huntley and Palmers and the history of Commodore computers, to moving accounts of child evacuees during World War Two, personal connections to South Africa’s period of Apartheid and a potted history of man’s relationship with dog!

We have been so impressed and want to commend all the girls on their commitment, originality and independence. Some examples of their great work are shown below, but do look out for more on our QAS History twitter page!

Emily researched the history of a local biscuit manufacturer, and Mary created her project on the Holy Well of St Anne.

Based on her research, Jemima wrote a diary from the perspective of a World War Two evacuee child.

Scarlet researched the history of the local town of Marlow.

Holly wrote about the moving history of her relatives in Holland.
