Sarah Helm from 'Talent by Design' came to speak with the Lower 6 about being a self-employed entrepreneur and her business.

Back in 2004 Sarah saw a gap in the market and began running training courses which develop the soft skills of employees. Since then, she has run training sessions for a multitude of companies from big, well-known corporations to smaller business and often has repeat business.

Sarah spoke about the advantages of being self-employed such as it's flexibility, that it has allowed her to travel as her business has grown and that she has got to work with many different businesses and people. When talking about advantages, people will also, often ask about the disadvantages of things, however Sarah stressed the importance of changing disadvantages into opportunities. She spoke about how COVID affected her business and how she had to switch to online training sessions, however this has now added a new way for her to deliver her sessions.

She also recognised that setting up your own business can be dauting, but encouraged the year group to give it a go, if they have an idea that they are passionate about. The Lower 6 had the opportunity to ask Sarah questions too, giving them greater insight into the world of those who are self-employed.
