Fencing Competition

U5 student Lizzie R recently took part in the Public Schools Fencing Competition.

The Public Schools Fencing Competition is a fiercely competitive event, with fencers cut after every round.

20% of competitors are cut after the 1st Poule and, 25% after the 2nd Poule, with the remaining fencers progressing to direct elimination.

Lizzie progressed to the 2nd Poule round in both Foil and Sabre, missing out on further progression by just a couple of places! Her Epee qualifying poule was a very high standard and, whilst she fenced well, she needed more competition experience to have been successful.

She has set herself the goal of progressing to direct elimination in every weapon next year, which would place her in the top 50% of the competition.

Her results for this year were:

  • Sabre –  19th out of 29
  • Foil –  31st out of 49
  • Epee –  47th out of 51

Well done Lizzie for your fantastic efforts in the Public Schools Fencing Competition, and good luck in your training towards next year’s competition.

We look forward to hearing many more fencing achievements in the future!
